COVID-19 outbreak: how academia is responding to the latest pandemic

Coronavirus cases currently stand at over 345,000 worldwide. Now more than ever, scientists and researchers are working together to accelerate research that can contribute to curtail this outbreak and prepare for future outbreaks.

To get a better sense of the impact of this virus on academic output, we decided to conduct an investigation of our platform to see how many coronavirus papers are available on Researcher and how engaged our users are with this content.

We found 1,882 coronavirus related papers across 530 journals, and these ten featured the most papers about the virus:

  1. Research Square: 91 papers
  2. Journal of Virology: 76 papers
  3. bioRxiv Microbiology: 69 papers
  4. Viruses: 55 papers
  5. Journal of Medical Virology: 50 papers
  6. Nature: 46 papers
  7. Virology: 33 papers
  8. Transboundary and Emerging Diseases: 32 papers
  9. PLOS ONE: 28 papers
  10. Emerging Infectious Diseases: 25 papers

88,012 distinct users have viewed these papers, and the most viewed paper on Researcher was “How scientists are fighting the novel coronavirus: A three minute guide”
